I know, it sounds painfully obvious, right? Almost too simplistic? Too impractical?
It does sound obvious, simplistic, and impractical.
But that doesn’t make it any less true.
Let’s be realistic. If you were already living the happily-ever-after fairytale life in some faraway fairytale castle with a doting fairytale prince by your side, you wouldn’t be reading this right now.
You’d be galloping about the countryside saddled atop a hearty steed in a quest for the most romantic picnic spot. After all, in your perfect kingdom, there are no ills, no responsibilities, and no distractions.
Buuuut, we live in today. We live in the real world. A world that lulls us into complacency and resigned acceptance despite our best intentions and plans.
For a time, you started each day feeling motivated and enthusiastic. But soon, as the daily grind wore on, you began to end each day feeling stressed out, upset, lost, and so very sad.
Left unchecked, you eventually awoke just as you drifted off to sleep…unhappy.
Look, I get it. You’re trying your best to meet the endless and competing demands that absorb your life…that of being a Mom, a Spouse/Partner, a Businesswoman…and most importantly, that of being YOURSELF.

Just who do I think I am?
My name is Dr. Liz Jenkins, and I’m here to make sure you rediscover your dreams, reignite your drive, and reset yourself so you can live an inspired life even WITH the demands of motherhood. Just as I have for hundreds of Moms in similar situations.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 30 years and a Life Transitions and Relationship Coach, I’ve seen the damage to women, their relationships, their families and their careers – if this stress goes unchecked.
I’ve looked at their faces, looked into their eyes, and I’ve seen their exhaustion and confusion. Their almost hopeless look of despair.
So I know what you’re going through right now. Not only because I’ve witnessed it with my clients, but also because I’ve been there myself.
As I looked in the mirror – into my own eyes…I saw the same desperation, guilt, and sadness…the same dark circles, the same dark thoughts…but also the same glimpses of happiness and wistfulness.
When I started having children, I had a vision that I would breeze through being a Mom, a wife and a businesswoman.
I owned my own private practice, employed other therapists, saw clients both in and out of the hospital and was well on the way to building a large therapy enterprise.
I was happily married to a truly wonderful man, owned a home complete with pool, dog and cats…I was managing all aspects well – with time for myself and luxury moments of self-care, shopping, friends and romance with my husband.
But the truth is, once our first daughter arrived, the plans I had set for myself began to fall apart right before my very eyes.
Tell me if any of this sounds familiar…
♦ I hadn’t known what true sleep deprivation was until I was nursing her every hour or two AROUND the clock! That child loved to eat. So, my plan to pump and store breast milk went out the window…along with my husband’s plan to cover nights.
♦ I hadn’t planned on a longer recovery post pregnancy (the emergency C-section was not on my list…no jumping back into pre-baby clothes…with no fashionable back up either!)
♦ I never considered baby spit up, toddler grime and feeding games…would clash with my work clothes…
♦ Yes, I babysat…wasn’t that one of the great jobs teen age girls got to experience growing up? But no one sat me down and had a serious talk about how to wrestle my pearl or gold necklaces out of an infant’s delicate ﬁngers…I mean how can such a tiny thing have the grip of a gorilla?! Plus, how to do this with grace and poise?
I suppose I could have resigned myself to my lot and just give in, but instead, I figured things out. The process was ugly at times…
meltdowns with me sobbing over things as trivial as dog hair…
baby toys all over the carpet…
bottles that weren’t washed or ready…
my husband’s tools, keys (really, whatever he had left out on the counter or ﬂoor)…
anger, despair and stomping around the kitchen remodel in-progress demanding that my sink be installed or the refrigerator be left in one spot…just because.
Today, all these years later, my life looks very different than it did then. And as I look back on that trying period of being a mom, I really wish there had been someone like me to turn to, to rely on, to help support me.
And now, I’m elated to have the opportunity to offer this very same support structure to you. I’ve spent over 30 years working with women, couples, children and families, so I understand the unique needs of women.
